We closed on the property on April 19, 2018. It's a strange feeling knowing that we now own two houses. Now it's real! We have got to get the ball rolling. We couldn't wait to get over there and start some cleanup on the property. So on Saturday, April 21, we loaded up the truck with everthing from lawn equipment to a mini-frig and headed down to Brignac Street. The first order of business was to take 'Before' pictures again. Then we unloaded and cranked up the electric chain saw. Well it didn't take long to realize the current electrical wiring in the house was failing. Well, we really already knew that. It's on the list for renovations. I headed out to the store to purchase a shorter extension cord but still no luck. Then here comes the neighbor to the rescue with his gas chain saw. We already have great neighbors! Dan went to work right away cutting down 'junk' trees, bushes, vines, etc. I pitched in by dragging branches to the pile by the street. It was hard work, especially for me. It's no secret that I don't do yard work. As Dan continued with the really hard work, he gave me the task spraying weed killer on the out-of-control vines/trees growing on the fence. It was a store bought concoction mixed in a bottle with a spray wand. Not too bad of task. This is when we met the keeper of our cute little neighbors across the street, the little calves. Here we have another friendly neighbor, sort of, who loaned us some additional weed killer. After a much needed and delicious lunch break (thank you mom!), it was back to work. We got a whole lot done but there is still much to do.
I think living in the country will be just what we needed. We remember when Prairieville was considered 'the country', but not any longer. We love our Prairieville community and will miss it terribly. On the other hand we will love being close to some of our family. I guess it is time for that change. Who knew it would lead us to this new project as we learn how to restore and renovate an old home. The next week will bring more planning and decisions on selling our current home. Maybe we can put that off a little longer.
