Hi folks! It’s been a while since my last Blog. Life has been busy and chaotic. In between moving, working, and building, it’s been a very different lifestyle for us. We spend our weekdays living in my son’s house in Baton Rouge, trying to keep the routine of work and home life somewhat settled. Then on many weekends, we transfer to Lutcher, Gramercy, and Paulina and spend time at the old homestead cleaning up, painting, cutting grass, or doing whatever else needs to be done to keep the project moving. In Between these tasks, we make time for our family. A few weekends ago, we took a road trip to visit Victoria and Logan. And every weekend we make sure to visit with the grandkids, Sarah and Adam, and Daniel when he is home on a weekend off. Currently I am on a break from the “In Between” chaos and finishing up a trip with a group of my travelers. We flew to Washington DC and began a guided tour visiting DC, Amish country in Lancaster, Niagara Falls, and New York City. We met many nice people from all over the world who were traveling with us on the tour. It was a wonderful trip but I am anxious to get back to wherever home is right now. It’s funny that many times I wanted to say “I can’t wait to sleep in my own bed”. But then I remember that I have not been sleeping in my own bed for two months now. I am “In Between” beds, LOL. Anyway, I am using my time on this flight ot write this Blog if I can remember where I left off and what’s been going on.
So what’s been going on on Brignac St.? We now have what looks like a house behind the old house. The garage and our little apartment are coming along nicely. We had some slow downs but things are picking up again. The rain everyday has caused a mess! But luckily the framing, and closing everything in was done before the everyday rains began. The metal roof was also installed in between rain storms but in unbearable heat. We are thankful for everyone who works in those conditions. Our in-wall plumbing, electical, and HVAC work is also complete. And Dan just updated me that all of the insulation is done. Of course we had inspections done every step of the way. I also hear that sheetrock is being delivered today and will be hung next week. That was good to here! I pray that we can keep progress moving so we can move in before too long, while I am In-Between trips. Billy will start building our cabinets while Dan and I paint the interior walls after the sheetrock is up and finished. I am anxious to get home and see the progress. I have a pile of stuff to bring over to the house that I ordered from Amazon and Wayfair including sinks, faucets, door knobs, ceiling fans, and light fixtures. You really can buy anything online! We still need to decide on floors and countertops.
As for the old house, I can’t wait to start on the inside but we will take our time to get it right. In the mean time, or “In Between” work on the garage and the fun part of remodeling, work will begin to replace the roof next week. The plan is to remove the old tin roof (although I love the old tin), add more support beams or rafters to the structure of the roof and then cover it with plywood to prepare for the new metal roof. Hopefully the new metal roof will be installed soon after. We want to get this done first to make sure that we don’t have a leaking roof before inside work begins. If we can get the outside of the house repaired and ready for painting, I will be a happy camper. Lord, please bring us some cooler weather soon. We still need to finish painting the exterior of the garage and apartment, but the heat has been unbearable. The only time that temperatures are bearable is when it is raining. But we did manage to get it all primed and one coat of paint on the siding boards so it protected until we get to finish painting it all.
So, that’s all for now! Right now I am “In Between” New York City and New Orleans. See you soon Louisiana!
