Brignacs on the Move

Writer's picture: Marla BrignacMarla Brignac

With permits finally in hand, work could finally begin on our garage. But first, or at the same time actually, we had to move out of our Prairieville home. In my last blog, I announced that our house was officially for sale. Well, we recieved an offer in just 5 days! We accepted the offer and the daunting process of packing up all of our belongings began. We went through many emotions about leaving our first dream home. This is where we raised our family for the past 25 years. We celebrated many birthdays, holidays, graduations, anniversaries, weddings, and more in that home. Many many hours were spent cooking as a family, doing homework, having dance parties, swim parties, sleepovers, and more recently entertaining grandchildren. I think that having this new project to work on is what gave us the strength to get through it Moving is hard work, much harder than we anticipated. The amount of stuff that came out of that house still boggles our minds. But it is done, although I should have kept a log of what things are in which storage unit, garage, shed, house, and yard. We joke that we are homeless, but we are actually living comforably in our son's house for now. Daniel, we are out of ice cream!

With the move behind us, we can now focus on our next venture and things have started to move quickly on the garage. The crews broke ground last week to prepare for the foundation, plumbing has be done, inspections done, and the cement was poured all in a weeks time. And for the past two days the framing has been going up very quickly. We walked through it this evening to get a feel of the actual size of our little one bedroom apartment. It will be, let's say 'Cozy', It's a big mess out there while construction is going on and I look forward to having a back yard again. The old house is also a mess right now with us using part for storage and tools everywhere. I am ready for some organization. I might have to work on that this weekend. The hot days and mosquitos are not helping either. I feel like we are neglecting the house right now and it shows. But one project at time, but sometimes overlapping. The only progress that will be noticed on the house will be when we replace the roof. Then it will be slow and hopefully steady once we are moved into the apartment.

And lastly, I want to apologize to the residents of Brignac St for any inconveniences caused by the construction. You see, this is a one lane street, which means two cars cannot go down the street in opposite directions at the same time. Big trucks, trailers, cement trucks, etc. have had a hard time getting in and out and I know they sometimes block the street. And I am sure the noise and increase in traffic (we call them Looky Loos) on this little lane has been noticed by everyone. I promise you will have your quiet street back. That is just how we like it!

Check out the Gallery for more pictures of progress.

Here are a few bonus pictures from our short family beach trip that was a nice break from the chaos of the last few weeks.
